FAQs
Your frequently asked questions answered.
How long will it take to get an appointment?
An appointment will be arranged for you as soon as possible and would take into consideration the optimum time for your own particular injuries to be assessed.
Why do I need to see a doctor other than my own doctor?
It may be the case that you require assessment by a doctor who is a specialist in the particular type of injury that you have suffered and who is experienced in providing medical reports for insurance purposes. Also it is important that the doctor who sees you is seen to be independent and has no connection with the patient making the claim.
Where will the appointment take place?
We will make every effort to use an independent medical expert who is located as close to your address as possible. However, this will depend on the type of injury you have and where an expert in that type of injury is located. In most cases this will be within reasonable travelling distance from your home. Either way you will receive full instructions as to where you need to go and when.
What will happen at the medical examination?
The purpose of the examination is to assess the levels of injury you have received and therefore no treatment will be given at this examination. You will be asked when and how the injury occurred, how the injury has affected your daily life and work and how, if at all, the injuries have improved.
How long will the examination take?
This will depend largely on the type of injury you have sustained and the consultation can last from as little at ten minutes to over an hour.
Can I take someone with me?
Yes, it is fine for you to take a friend or relative with you.
Will I have to pay for my own transport?
Initially yes, and you should keep all travel receipts and hand these over to your solicitor. However, in many cases your solicitor should be able to recover these costs from the other party.
Once the medical report is written, will I get to see it?
Yes, a copy should be sent to you by your solicitor who will provide you with an opportunity to comment on the report.
What should I do if I can’t attend the appointment?
Every effort should be made to attend the appointment that has been made for you. However, if you do have to cancel then you should contact us as soon as you know you will be unable to attend. It may be the case that once you have agreed to attend an appointment and do not do so then a cancellation fee may be payable.
If I have any other questions can I contact anyone?
Yes, if you have any other questions before your examination then please do not hesitate in contacting us and we will be able to advise you.
